Even with greater awareness on self-care and emotional health, when you feel overwhelmed sometimes it’s difficult to self soothe. There’s so much advice and most of the time it’s pretty good, but sometimes you don’t want to read an article or watch a full video. Sometimes you want some parameters so you don’t have to do extra work to get to your relaxation. That’s the goal of Recipes for Happiness.

Recipes for Happiness is a microsite that helps to generate suggestions for a self care or soothing activity. On landing, visitors will be met with a soothing soundscape and a few introductory words like, “Thanks for stopping by, I’m glad you’re trying to be kind to yourself”.

The next prompt will ask them to select the level of effort they can extend towards their activity. I’m thinking that will look like a health or mana bar with 3-5 spots to stop at starting at Low Level Set Up to High Level Set Up.

Once that parameter is set to a specific level, recipe cards will be generated for options that correspond to that level.

I think for the sake of my time and sanity, I’ll start with 3 energy levels and have 2 to 3 options for each level. The recipe cards will look a lot like old school recipe cards. Set up items would make to ingredients and like modern recipes, you can cross out (or check box) what you’ve already added. As many activities don’t require that I actually give a step by step, I would include a literary quote instead.

I also need to change the language to be a bit more in line with the theme.

I had the idea to actually just give users 3 options instead of the sliders. So that would have been recipe cards, a sound room ( kinda like this project but just with a present playlist and a slow change of colors over time https://thesoundof.love. ), and an **image room (**random pop up of animal and nature images, also over sound, but changes slowly with a image change delay of 20 seconds or so). I’m moving down to just the recipe cards for now, but if I can at least do 2 to 3 cards for each level then I will still probably do the sound room.
