Hypertext Narrative Concept Proposal and Sketch
For my project, I would like to build a hypertext narrative that honors my personal experience as a Nuyorican—an introspective exploration of navigating Puerto Rican identity as a Brooklyn native. The piece will take the form of a poetic journey where Spanglish becomes the map, and the user navigates not through plot, but through language, intuition, and cultural resonance. The homepage will feature a short poem written in Spanglish. Certain words or phrases will be hyperlinked, inviting the reader to click and uncover deeper layers—emotional, cultural, historical, or linguistic. Each click leads to a new page that expands the meaning of that word through micro-poems, anecdotes, images, or sounds. There will be no “start to finish” trajectory—users will move through the narrative sin rumbo, guided by curiosity rather than chronology. Visually, the design will be minimalist to let the language carry the experience. Where appropriate, I may include ambient sounds or evocative imagery that ties into specific linked words, but the heart of the piece lies in the way words unfold new meanings and memories across a network of nonlinear paths.
